Tell us about your business. What products or services do you offer?: Behind the Socials is a social media management business based in Kalgoorlie, WA. We help businesses build a strong online presence through strategy, content creation, social media management. We also offer social media audits, email marketing and consulting. Our goal is to become an extension of our clients' businesses, creating content that feels authentic and delivers real results.

What inspired you to start your business?: I've always loved storytelling and creativity, but I noticed so many amazing local businesses simply didn't have the time or confidence to market themselves online. I wanted to create a business that allowed business owners to focus on what they do best while I took care of sharing their story with the world.

How long have you been running your business?: Behind the Socials officially launched in 2024. After taking some time away while welcoming my son, I relaunched the business in early 2026 and have experienced incredible growth since then.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced as a woman in business, and how did you overcome it?: Balancing motherhood, grief and growing a business has been my greatest challenge. There have been times where I've questioned whether I could do it all, but I've learnt that asking for help, creating systems and focusing on progress rather than perfection has allowed me to keep moving forward.

What has been your proudest moment as a business owner?: Signing clients that I once thought were completely out of reach has been incredibly rewarding. Watching businesses trust me with their brand and seeing tangible growth from our work reminds me why I started Behind the Socials in the first place.

What strategies have helped you grow your business?: Building genuine relationships has been the biggest factor. Networking, providing value before asking for anything in return, being consistent online and delivering exceptional results have all contributed to steady growth. Word of mouth has become one of my strongest marketing tools.

What tools or resources have been game-changers for your business?: Canva Pro, CapCut and Notion have completely transformed how I work. They allow me to streamline systems, collaborate with clients and deliver a professional experience while managing multiple accounts.

Can you share one key lesson you’ve learned about managing finances as a business owner?: Cash flow is more important than revenue. It's easy to celebrate signing new clients but having systems for invoicing, budgeting and planning ahead has been one of the most valuable lessons I've learnt.

How do you balance the demands of your business with your personal life?: I'm still learning that balance. I've become much better at setting boundaries, planning my weeks and protecting time for my family. Going to the gym several times a week has also become an important way to recharge and look after myself.

What leadership qualities do you believe are essential for running a successful business?: Authenticity, communication and leading by example. I believe people work best when they feel supported, trusted and valued.

How do you motivate and manage your team?: I focus on creating clear systems and expectations while giving people ownership over their work. I believe in encouraging growth, recognising achievements and making sure everyone understands the bigger vision behind the business.

What role does mentorship or networking play in your business journey?: Networking has opened doors I never expected. Living in regional WA has shown me how valuable relationships are. Every event, conversation and introduction has the potential to become an opportunity to learn, collaborate or support another local business.

What trends do you think will shape your industry in the coming years?: Video-first content, authentic storytelling, AI-assisted workflows and community-driven marketing will continue to shape the industry. Businesses that focus on building genuine relationships rather than simply chasing trends will stand out.

How do you stay ahead of the competition in your industry?: I invest in learning, stay on top of platform updates and continually refine my systems. Most importantly, I focus on understanding each client's business rather than applying the same strategy to everyone.

Who or what inspires you in your business journey?: Small business owners inspire me every day. Seeing people take risks, build something meaningful and support their communities motivates me to keep growing Behind the Socials.

What books, podcasts, or resources have had the biggest impact on your professional growth?: I'm a big believer in learning from a variety of sources. Industry podcasts, business books, online courses and connecting with other business owners have all helped shape how I approach marketing and business growth.

What’s a fun fact about you that most people wouldn’t know?: I'm originally from Scotland and moved to Australia in 2023. I still have my Scottish accent, which definitely stands out at networking events!

What’s one thing you wish more people knew about your business?: Social media management is about so much more than creating posts. It's strategy, psychology, marketing, customer service, analytics and storytelling all working together to help businesses grow.

Reflecting on your time in business, what is one piece of advice you would give to another woman to help her on her business journey?: Don't wait until you feel ready. Confidence comes from taking action, not from waiting for the perfect moment. Start with what you have, keep learning, back yourself and remember that every successful business owner started exactly where you are now.

How can people connect with you or learn more about your business? (e.g., website, social media, etc.): You can find Behind the Socials on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn by searching Behind the Socials or visit our website www.behindthesocials.net. I'm always happy to chat over a coffee about how social media can help your business grow.
