27 ways to get your MICRO MOJO back in business.
This week I’ve had a lot of conversations with women in business about how to get their mojo back.
It seems like we all pushed to get to the EOFY and then the 1st of July rolled around and there was no break. The new year is here. New goals. But it feels like we are starting at square one.
And for those of us who have been in it for some time (hello, a 12 year biz veteran over here!)… it can be easy for the dates to define us and lose our passion along the way.
Conversations also touched on how when we work so hard for a new product or hit a milestone or even pivot… we think there will be a magical refreshing reinvigoration of our attitude and energy towards business… but that’s rarely the case. The to-do list is still there and we’ve already set out next goal.
So how do we get our mojo back in business when it’s all feeling a little ‘blah’?
Well, the answer is different for everyone and I wanted to introduce you to a concept called ‘micro mojo’.
A lot of business owners want to find that first crazy amazing energy they had at the start of their business… you know, when you would stay up until midnight just adding one more thing to the website and you actually loved getting out of bed in the morning?
After 12 years I can tell you that while I LOVEEEEE my businesses, I do not have that same level of physical and mental energy (perhaps that’s also just getting older, but we can save that for another article). So each day I chase my micro mojo.
Small pockets of positivity, inspiration, energy and zest for taking over the world. Sometimes quickly followed by ‘do I really have to send one more cold outreach email or dance on TikTok' moment. Micro mojo is the bridge in amongst the boring that keeps us in the game on the way to achieving our vision.
If you are looking to bring a little micro mojo to your day, here are 27 ideas that you can experiment with to find something that works for you. They don’t have to take a lot of time, but you do have to try something!
Close your laptop and close the door to your office, get it out of sight when you break for lunch or finish for the day so it’s not a constant reminder of the to-do list left unfinished.
Crank up your favourite tune and dance like an idiot in the lounge room.
Jump on the kids trampoline. (Please don’t hurt yourself).
Get in the car and go and buy yourself a bunch of flowers… don’t do it while you are grocery shopping, intentionally go out and do it just to bring beauty into your life.
Go for a walk, do some yoga just move your damn body.
Eat a Big Mac. {insert any delicious food you normally don’t allow yourself to have!}
Sit in the sun for 10 minutes with no phone.
DREAM. Close your eyes and imagine it was already yours, that you had already built the life you ultimately desire.
Talk to someone. If you are part of a business community reach out to someone for a chat. Or phone a friend and talk about anything but business.
When was the last time you checked in with your BIG PICTURE vision for your business… if you have forgotten why you are doing what you are doing, perhaps you need to schedule an hour revisiting the vision and checking in with your goals.
Journal - I personally love the journal prompt, ‘If I wanted to achieve my goal in the next 3 months, what would my business have to look like? And who would I have to be as a business owner?’
Breathe. There is something so healing about stopping and taking deep breaths. A calm nervous system is the gateway to getting your mojo back!
Offload a task to a freelancer. I’m talking something tiny but something you do repeatedly in your business. I am telling you, the moment you realise you don’t have to do absolutely everything in your business is absolutely f*cking magical.
Do something for future you. The way I support future Dani is by making soup. I split it into small servings and it means I have healthy food on hand when I’m feeling too busy.
Celebrate a win, it doesn’t matter how small. My personal form of celebration is champagne, but however celebrating looks to you… do not put it off! If we don’t pat ourselves on the back, of course our mojo doesn’t show up!
Put something in the diary to look forward to… maybe it’s an event or a weekend away… you actually get more of a dopamine hit anticipating the thing than actually doing the thing.
Get organised. Often we run from task to task and tell ourselves we are too busy to get organised. However setting aside an hour to organise all of your post-it notes into a to do list and then prioritising them gives you a sense of calm that you know what step to take next. (Talking to myself here with a desk COVERED in post-it notes)
Listen to a podcast to give yourself a fresh perspective, I highly recommend SPARKTV hehehe seriously there’s over 150+ conversations with awesome women in business who know exactly what you are going through!
Go to therapy. I’m not even kidding, do you know how amazing it is to unload your deepest darkest thoughts to someone for an hour? Highly recommend.
Have a bath. I love this one as you can’t use your phone in the bath, ok you can, but you should use it as an opportunity to NOT be on your phone. Submerging your body in beautiful hot water, with a delicious essential oil or scent of some kind is the relaxation you deserve.
Read. This one pairs perfectly with the bath above! Reading helps our mind relax by giving it another focus.
Have a nap or go to bed early tonight.
Revisit past client compliments to remind yourself you’re doing a great job! (A hot tip is, every time someone writes you a nice email or DM is to screen shot it and keep it in a folder for times when you need a pick-me-up!)
Learn something new - it can be business or non-business related. By challenging ourselves and expanding our skills we feel accomplished and valuable. I recently knitted a rug which was a huge endeavour, and it’s not that great, but you best believe I feel like a rockstar and curl up under it on the couch every night.
Declutter. Denise Duffield-Thomas always talks about clearing space for the things you are trying to manifest or call into your life. Decluttering is a cleansing experience that helps to hit our internal refresh button. For some reason when we throw out that ‘thing’ it’s easier to throw out our limiting beliefs as well.
Review your numbers. This might seem a bit worky - but you don’t know how many people show up to our members monthly CEO time and feel lighter because they thought their world was falling apart but when they reflected on their numbers for the past month they realised they were actually doing ok after all!
F*ck it, you’ve been sitting on that new product idea forever, why not just give it a go? If you’ve got a fire in your belly for an idea, why not let it out?
Pick one. Pick two. Try something and if it doesn’t work for you try something else another day. Just never give up on yourself my love! xx
P.S. Is there something you do to bring a little micro-mojo to your day? I’d love to share it with the SPARK community to keep us all inspired. Share your ideas at team@sparkfoundersprogram.com
